for most companies in the UK the two most appropriate domain names are .co.uk (UK company) and .com (International company).  unless you are desperate for a particular name that is already taken we would recommend either of these.

• .me.uk is suitable for individuals

• .org.uk and .org are suitable for non profit making organisations or clubs

• .net and .net.uk are for internet service providers and .net.uk is exclusive to these.

• .info is a fairly new name that seems quite popular.

• other names include .biz, .uk.com, .eu.com, .gb.com, .tv and .cc as well as all the country specific names like .de and .dk

if at all possible choose a name that contains some of the keywords that are relevant to your business - if you have a hotel called the Really Posh Hotel go for really-posh-hotel.co.uk rather that really-posh.co.uk.  also use hyphens to split the keywords into real words.  no other punctuations are allowed.

if you want an example of a domain name that does none of the above then look at islandwebservices.co.uk - it is one meaningless word rather than three words that say something - island, web and services.  Also island sounds like Ireland.
